Eyup. I’m Hayley, a UK-based visual artist using my work to tell stories across a variety of formats. Growing up in what may as well have been a library, with an author for a father and self-proclaimed book worm as a mother, I was always encouraged to explore my imagination. To create worlds, to draw, to write and that is exactly what I plan to do.
Although my love for art started when I was young, it really took hold as a teenager, spending my evenings drawing many Twilight characters (yes, I know) and the countryside around my home. I continued my creative studies through sixth form (taking home the ‘prestigious’ Emma Howard memorial prize and £120 prize winnings), college and on to university. Whilst studying Fashion at University for the Creative Arts, I found enjoyment in creating work that really meant something to me. My projects embodied telling the stories of those on the ‘outside’ of society, ranging from those with disabilities, to subcultures like punks to addressing the lack of diversity in media, rounding up my three year course with an ode to the female form. #freethenipple, am I right?
I find myself inspired by current cultural and societal issues and wanting to empower others through my work. Whether the subject matter is focused on mental health, LGBTQ+ issues, female empowerment, climate change or simply what northerners say in London, telling stories will always be at the centre of everything I do.
Here’s some things nice people have said about me.
“Hayley designed and embroidered the artwork for my EP. She really brought the idea I had in my head to life and executed it to a very high standard!” – Nina Sundstrum
“Super talented and determined to make sure the client is 100% happy with the result.” – Ava Pelham
“Hayley put together a family portrait for a recent xmas present. I was extremely impressed with the results! Pictures were very accurate and would happily recommend her to anyone.” – Matt Young
“I love Hayley’s designs so much. I asked her to illustrate my friend and her boyfriend as a 30th birthday present. I was so chuffed with the results (so was my friend). It was the perfect gift, she got them spot on and it was the quickest turnaround ever. I would highly reccommend – it’s the perfect gift!” – Lindsey Isla Henderson
